Inspiration or Motivation?

Inspiration or motivation-which drives you? Too many people talk a good game, but wait on “inspiration” before acting. A lot of time can go by waiting for it to magically materialize. For the majority, it never happens. Musicians are especially guilty of this. I’ve seen it over and over.

On The Other Hand

On the other hand, people like myelf just dive in to a project, never knowing what happens next. Many times, some of the “happiest accidents” can come out of nowhere. It’s a great feeling!
Turns out, it doesn’t matter how fast I can play the most guitar/whatever instrument notes. There will always be faster, better “gunslingers” out there. In the final analysis, who really cares? Navel gazing does nothing to advance your cause. Get in there and slug it out! It’s the message; it’s the feeling that makes it art.

The First Step

It’s been said the first step is the hardest. How true!
When I started recording my own music, I had no idea what I was doing, I just had to do it. Overdubbing over and over, locked away in my audio “lab”, I began getting clues to the puzzle. Fifty years later, I still don’t know what I’m doing, but am still willing to learn more as I go. Implementing what you learn is key. Hey, it’s all starting to make sense!

The Best You

You can strive to find the best you in whatever endeavor you ultimately choose. No one needs another audio/text manipulator, unless you are that person. You need to be that person because you are hard-wired for that function. No one else can duplicate your uniqueness, so bask in that. Be the best you.

Following Through

It’s all in following through. Very few actually follow through. You’ve heard about good intentions. That’s all they are. No action required.

Well, I need to get back to my composition to find out what happens next-just following through…
